Welcome

Welcome to the 2021 Annual Meeting website for the Canadian Geophysical Union (CGU). The CGU has planned online series of oral sessions, workshops, section meetings and a Union-wide Annual General Meeting. The sessions will take place online throughout June and July, with the framework, schedule, and content of the meeting appearing on the CGU website in the coming weeks.

Please look out for further announcements of the planned activity and updates. We hope to have you join us online this summer.

***The updated schedule can be found here. Note that Zoom link info will be sent out via the CGU member email list.***

The call for abstracts is now open! Click the link for more information as well as to view the sessions that are currently planned.

General Letter
Dear CGU members and colleagues,

As you are aware, in late 2020 we decided to cancel this year’s in-person CGU meeting in Banff. We are pleased to provide some details about our continued efforts to stay connected as a scientific community through this year’s virtual programming.

Currently, information about online scientific sessions and a call for abstracts have been distributed by email; this information is now also being uploaded to our website and distributed via social media. For this year, our objective is to present two online sessions per week throughout June and July. The schedule will be determined based on the number of abstracts submitted by our membership and will be announced to roughly coincide with the May long weekend. A broad representation of the CGU’s various sections is anticipated for the finalized schedule, given our receipt of 15 different session proposals spanning the spectrum of CGU activities.

Differently from last year, we are formally accepting abstracts for online, virtual presentations. This is being done via email (see template provided on website) with submission due May 10 (to info@cgu-ugc.ca). Note that the abstract submission deadline has been extended to May 17th. Abstract submissions are free this year, as is the opportunity to participate in this year’s virtual sessions. We only ask that presenters renew their CGU memberships, which also allows us to more easily communicate with members regarding session access and other details.

Thank you all for your patience as we organize this year’s scientific presentations. Please do feel free to contact us through info@cgu-ugc.ca for any feedback you may have. We will be in touch soon.

Sincerely,
Carl Mitchell President, CGU
